Fighting cyberbullying with “safe zones”
We are stepping up our long-standing commitment to protecting young people from digital abuse: cyberbullying, online hate and hyperconnection. This commitment is now embodied in the “For Good Connections” initiative, concrete examples of which are the Orange Safe Zones created on the Fortnite and Roblox online gaming platforms.
In 2023, six months after its launch, Fortnite’s Orange Safe Zone welcomed almost 4 million visitors. The aim is twofold: to provide a space within the game itself where players can develop the right reflexes in the face of potential digital dangers in a fun way, and to put players in touch with trusted contacts who specialize in cyberbullying.
We are also active in the field, with awareness-raising workshops run in partnership with the French Football Federation for children aged 10 to 14. To date, tens of thousands of young people have benefited from these workshops. Finally, we are continuing to expand our “mdr – manque de repères” podcast series, to facilitate dialog with teenagers on digital issues.
At the beginning of 2024, to mark the 21st Safer Internet Day (France), in line with our purpose, we are reinforcing our long-standing commitment to protecting young people from the abuses of digital technology: cyberbullying, online hate and hyperconnectivity. This Orange commitment is now referred to as the “For Good Connections” initiative.
Finally, in February 2024 we shared our Policy on Children’s Rights and Protection in the Digital Age with the Orange Group. This document sets out Orange’s long-term intentions regarding the rights and protection of children in the digital age, in relation to our activity as an operator. It brings together a set of principles, standards and behaviors that apply to everyone in the company and guide our decision-making.
